High Alcohol from Grapes: Wine, Port, Sherry, Grappa
Put Valentine's Day behind you with our exploration of high-alcohol beverages made with grapes!
What is "high alcohol"?
For wine, it is considered to be anything higher than 14% ABV (Alcohol By Volume) - and distilled spirits (like grappa) can get to 65% ABV. These drinks feel "hot" in the mouth and can really pack a whallop. They can be drunk as aperitif, with a meal, for dessert, or as digestif.
What is on the list?
- Sherry
- Ruby Port
- Banyuls
- Muscat de Beaumes de Venise
- Grappa
Find out what makes some wines have more alcohol than others, and how fortified wines and distilled spirits have their alcohol managed, as we taste examples of all 3 types. Then plan your next meal!
