ABOUT ABOUT

Tasting Beaujolais from Nouveau to Cru

Beaujolais runs the gamut from the light, fresh, fruity Beaujolais Nouveau that marks the first wine of the new vintage to the refined, complex, acidic Cru Beaujolais that comes from one of the 10 designated Crus within Beaujolais.

All of the Beaujolais wines are made from Gamay, the light-skinned offspring of Pinot Noir and Gouais Blanc.  The southern regions border the Rhone, while the northern regions border Burgundy - prompting positive comparisons between the two regions with their mature wine-making and similar grapes.

Why should you drink them?  Beaujolais produces excellent wines in the shadow of Burgundy.  The variety within the region ensures wines for sipping, savoring, and slurping.  In this tasting, we'll try a Nouveau and an AOC Beaujolais from the same producer, as well as wines from 3 of the regions Crus.  How diverse are they? Come explore and learn!

We'll taste:

  • Domaine Dupeuble Beaujolais Nouveau
  • Domaine Dupeuble Beaujolais AOC
  • Domaine Chanrion Cote de Brouilly
  • Domaine Chignard Fleurie "Les Morriers"
  • Domaine Diochon Moulin-a-Vent Vieilles Vignes.

This tasting is part of our Global Vineyard Passport Series where, every third Tuesday, Bob Barrett, Certified Specialist of Wine, shares his knowledge with a guided tasting of five different wines.

Your $25 ticket entitles you to our 5-wine tasting plus light snacks, as well as 15% off your evening's bar tab.
